Our goal is to lower the barriers of using public health data for decision making.

SaniPath International is a nonprofit WASH technical assistance consulting group with a focus on innovative research, analytical expertise, and field training using cutting-edge public health methods to address the global water sanitation and hygiene crisis and strengthen evidence-based decision-making in public health interventions.

SaniPath International, Inc. is an experienced international collective specializing in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) solutions. Our team brings expertise in research, public health, engineering analytics, behavior change communication, sanitation marketing, and field training. We leverage advanced sanitation assessment tools to support development partners and promote better decision-making through accessible public health data.

Founded as part of a Gates Foundation initiative at Emory University’s Center for Global Safe Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, SaniPath started with a focus on assessing fecal contamination in urban low-income areas. After a decade of impactful work, we’ve evolved into an independent organization with a continued commitment to improving WASH service delivery, particularly for underserved populations.

With over 10 years of dedicated experience, SaniPath has become a trusted partner in the WASH sector. Our approach emphasizes pro-poor development and enhancing WASH services in urban settings, small towns, and rural communities. Our efforts span comprehensive planning, research, technological innovation, and capacity building, with a focus on households, health centers, and schools.

SaniPath International operates globally, with ongoing projects across Africa and Asia. We are headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, with active work and partnerships in countries including Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia, Ghana, Senegal, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, India, Nepal, Mongolia, the Philippines, Cambodia, and Bangladesh.

History of SaniPath International

The organization was founded by staff at Center for Global Safe WASH at Emory University and TREND Ghana.

The Center for Global Safe Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (CGSW) is a consortium dedicated to improving global access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). Based at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health, the CGSW combines academic research with field-based initiatives, advocacy, and policy development. The center focuses on addressing WASH challenges through partnerships, innovative solutions, and rigorous evaluation, aiming to reduce water-related illnesses, especially in low-resource settings. CGSW also plays a key role in training future leaders and building institutional capacity in developing countries to sustainably address these vital public health issues.

TREND is a national NGO in Ghana with over 25 years of experience supporting WASH services delivery in Ghana and neighboring countries. TREND’s capacity areas include engineering, community awareness, management, process facilitation, WASH capacity building, mapping, and social research.

SaniPath International leverages the extensive experience and resources of the Center for Global Safe WASH at Emory University and TREND.
